About Fortinos
Fortinos is a Canadian supermarket chain operating 21 stores in Ontario as of 2007. It is part of Loblaw Companies Limited.
From a downtown Hamilton tiny storefront to our latest 75,000 square foot store, Fortinos approach to business has not changed. Italian immigrant John Fortino opened his first store in 1961 in downtown Hamilton, with the promise of good, fresh food, competitive prices, a clean & organized environment, and excellent service. Supported by hard working family and staff, plus loyal customers and communities, the business prospered.
Today the Loblaw‐owned Fortinos banner has 23 stores across the GTA reflecting leading edge development in supermarket innovation while remaining true to our founder’s philosophy. Floral departments with professional designers, full service pharmacies, the latest in health & wellness products and Certified Holistic Nutritionists on staff reflect our contemporary, customer‐focused approach. Sit down cafes with free wifi, store roasted coffee beans sourced from estate and fair trade origins, and a diverse selection of hot and cold snacks & meals cater to hungry shoppers.
On the fresh food front, Fortinos’ unique Pane Fresco brand takes ready‐to‐eat food to entirely new heights. Built on the simple philosophy of ‘eating well made easy’, Pane Fresco represents a new generation of foods to go, prepared with our own recipes inspired by traditional and contemporary Italian foods, all delivering big flavours you can really taste! Pane Fresco, Italian for ‘fresh bread’, offers over 30 varieties of hand‐shaped artisanal breads, giant Roman‐style pizzas, soup and hot sandwiches. Our signature, fresh carved prime rib sandwich, is known as the best sandwich in town! Whole, fully cooked, ready‐ to‐eat roasts, classic vegetables and rustic pasta classics are at the heart of Pane Fresco’s ‘eating well made easy’ delicious cuisine.
Fortinos is known for our ‘hanging sides of beef’. Our meat buyers hand select and stamp each side with the Fortinos seal for quality, marbling and flavour. Fortinos signature fresh sausage is prepared with the original, 60 year old recipe using only quality Ontario pork shoulder with no additives or preservatives. In line with current tastes and preferences, our butchers offer a large selection of organic, all‐natural and Halal meat, in addition to our complete line of traditional meat and poultry cuts.
Produce is sourced from local and Ontario farmers wherever possible, our seafood is responsibly sourced and Marine Stewardship Certified. A huge, evergrowing selection of organic, vegetarian and vegan products can be found in all departments to meet the varied culinary and health requests of our customers. In line with our historical roots, Fortinos continues to offer the best possible range of local & imported Italian grocery, cheeses, pastas & condiments.
