Smiths News is the UK’s leading newspaper and magazine wholesaler. Working on behalf of all major national and regional publishers, we distribute a huge range of print media to 24,000 customers – from large general retailers to smaller independent newsagents. We use our extensive network of distribution centres to provide an efficient, friendly and professional service to all our customers, no matter their size or where they are located.
Who are we?Smiths News plc is the UK’s largest newspaper and magazine wholesaler, with 55% market share. Operating seven days a week, we supply approximately 24,000 retailers across England and Wales.
What do we do?Every day of the week, we deliver to thousands of communities across the UK, operating in the tightest of timescales, to ensure early morning distribution of the nation’s newspapers and magazines. Combining scale, technology and know-how, we offer a comprehensive supply chain solution, with unmatched service to publishers and retailers.

What's important to us?Colleague Engagement – Our Local and National Forums’ work with our business to understand what our teams want and how we can best support them locally and organisation wide. We always look at ways to improve and alongside forums our engagement surveys, D&I Surveys and Intranet allow for two way communication to get the all important feedback we need to improve as a business!
Mental Health – Our mental health first allies, mental health forum and wide range of support resources are always available to support our colleagues.
Employee support – Our colleague support fund, employee assistance programme and hardship fund are all available for all colleagues 24/7.
Community – Critical to our success is being an active part in the news industry. Supporting the sector through the NewstrAID charity is one way. But we also have our own registered charity Pass It On helping to address the challenges and issues of UK homelessness.
Recognition and Development – Alongside our 24/7 e-Learning and apprenticeship opportunities we also have fantastic leadership apprenticeship programmes and development opportunities for all. To recognise all the hard work our teams do our Extra Mile recognitions share and reward success across the business.
