Every new starter has a two-day induction to welcome you to the charity. You’ll learn about how we work, what we value, what systems we use, and how your role fits into the charity. If you’re working in a specialist role, you’ll be welcomed by your team. If you’re working in a front-line role, you’ll join one of our training academies.

Exclusively for front line colleagues, our training academies are full-time classroom-based courses accredited by the Money Advice Service.
You’ll gain the right skills and knowledge to help our clients, with the support of one of our dedicated trainers and a team of expert coaches. It takes up to eight weeks to complete, depending on your role.
-Your development-
You’ll have access to a wide range of development opportunities so you can continue to learn, develop and progress, including:
• Regular 1-2-1 meetings with your line manager
• An individual development plan
• Face-to-face training to enhance your skills
• E-learning courses and development programmes
• A ‘learn to lead’ programme for progressing to management
• An assisted study programme for external courses
-Contact Centre Roles -
Our Debt Advisors help and support clients directly, who are contacting the charity about their debt and need help. You’ll speak to people from all walks of life who are dealing with debt and money worry. The conversations you have can improve and save lives.
It takes a special kind of person to be successful in the role. You need to have excellent communications skills, tenacity, and emotional resilience. The calls you have calls may be difficult or emotionally charged.
You don’t need any specific previous experience. We provide comprehensive training for the first 8 weeks of your employment with us.
We set you up with a laptop to work from home and provide a wide range of benefits to ensure our staff have a great work-life balance.
This can be the start of a great career for those willing to work for us. Several members of our Senior Leadership Team started out right here.
-Roles in enabling departments-
Our enabling departments work to ensure that the charity functions as well as possible. Departments include Operational Support, Risk and Compliance, I.T, Marketing, Human Resources, External Affairs, and Finance.
We recruit from entry level roles where you’ll learn the ropes, through to Senior Leadership positions where you’ll develop your team and make changes to ensure we can work efficiently and help as many people as possible.
We work together at StepChange, and many roles will involve extensive inter-departmental cooperation.
