Our HistoryIn 2019, Lund International joined forces with truck accessory leader Truck Hero Inc., thus forming an automotive alliance unlike any other in the industry. Lund International has a history of leading the industry in meeting customer needs for automotive accessories. A fully integrated, tirelessly innovative company, Lund International now serves original equipment manufacturers, warehouse distributors, auto accessory dealers and vehicle owners with state-of-the-art design and manufacturing capabilities, and one of the industry's largest array of product categories.
Allan W. Lund, an entrepreneur highly skilled in the design of fiberglass products, founded Lundin 1965. Prior to producing accessories for the truck market, Allan Lund was a teacher and insurance salesman. He began producing prototype work for snowmobile, boat, and other recreational vehicle makers and started making sun visors in a Coon Rapids, Minnesota chicken barn in 1974. The Lund SunVisor attached to the cab of a truck or van. By the late 1970s, as light truck sales increased, the company began producing appearance accessories for light trucks.
Lund's second product was a cab spoiler. An authorized dealer program was established to sell products through auto parts stores, auto body and trim stores and car washes. Dealer-expediters, who customize new trucks before they leave the lot, significantly boosted product sales. The company soon expanded to offer 20 additional product lines, including bug shields, fender extensions and grill inserts. One of the company's fastest growing products from this period was running boards, a product that quickly caught on with women, who found them helpful for getting in and out of trucks.
In the winter of 1997, Lund signed a merger agreement to acquire Deflecta-Shield Corporation of Indianola, Iowa, thereby forming Lund International which manufactured and marketed a portfolio of product from hood shields, running boards, side window deflectors and covers, and visors, to tonneau covers, storage boxes and truck bed protection. The company grew quickly and continued to expand, acquiring Belmor, a manufacturer of specialty accessories for the heavy duty trucking industry, in 1997.
Lund International acquired Auto Ventshade (AVS) in 1998. AVS was established in Chamblee, GA and built the business around the innovation of the Ventshade, a device mounted above car windows to keep out rain when the window is open. The company made a variety of window shades, hood shields, light covers, and other accessories.
To continue the diversification of its portfolio, Lund International acquired Nifty Products, a design and manufacturing company for custom molded floor mats, carpet mats, rear cargo bay trays and trunk liners in 2002. In 2004, Lund International acquired TRENZ, a leading manufacturing a custom grills along with interior and exterior automotive accessories. The next decade brought a flurry of acquisitions. In 2013, Lund International acquired Southern California based AMP Research, the creator of the PowerStep, which offers innovation in motion and is precision engineered to fit your vehicle. That same year, Lund International acquired Prestige, a manufacturer of imported fender flares, and production was moved from Asia to the USA. The acquisition of Texas based storage box manufacturer, Tradesman, completed 2013’s acquisitions.
In 2014, Lund International acquired the Southern California based Jeep accessories manufacturer, Rampage Products. Early 2015 brought the acquisitions of the Portland based fender flare creator, Bushwacker, and Iowa based Stampede Automotive Accessories, maker of side window deflectors, hood protection and fender flares in basic and specialty finishes. Later in 2015, Lund International acquired tonneau cover manufacturer, Tonno Pro. In early 2016, Roll-N-Lock, the Florida based creator and manufacturer of the most advanced truck bed cover ever made, joined the Lund International portfolio. In early 2017, Indiana-based RoadWorks Manufacturing, a leading heavy-truck accessory company in North America, was acquired.
