About Jackson and Sons Heating and Air
The Jackson & Sons tradition of high-quality HVAC solutions and unbeatable service began at the kitchen table and in the garage of Woodard and Judy Jackson’s home in Dudley, North Carolina in April of 1974. The company started with 3 employees and the constant faith that people in Wayne County needed someone to call on for heating and air. In the summer of 1974, Woodard’s younger brother helped out while he was on break from college. His “hiring” started the now long-standing and invaluable tradition of offering summer jobs with Jackson & Sons to students, especially those with an interest in the HVAC industry.
Although the tough economic time of the mid to late 70’s caused issues for many businesses, Jackson & Sons continued to thrive. Soon there were 10 employees, including 2 fulltime office staff, an outside sales person, and a fulltime plumber. In 1978, Jackson & Sons was incorporated. Woodard’s sons, Danny, David, and Craig began working in the business during their summers and holidays away from college. In 1982, Danny graduated from East Carolina University and came home to work in the family business. Danny decided it was time to create a service department, and the outstanding customer service Jackson & Sons is famous for was born.
In 1983 David earned his degree from ECU and joined the family business to computerize and automate the accounting departments. A few short years later, Judy Jackson retired from the company, turning over all accounting duties to David. Woodard began training Danny to someday take his place as the owner of the company. In the early 1990’s Danny and David saw an opportunity to grow the business further by concentrating on repairs and replacement sales. They added more service technicians, started a dedicated preventative maintenance program for their customers, and added another outside sales consultant. As a result, Jackson & Sons grew dramatically. The facilities as well as the staff were expanded to respond to the increase in sales.
In July of 2002 Woodard Jackson officially retired and handed over full control of all operations to Danny and David Jackson. Lyman Smith, who began his career with Jackson & Sons working after school and during summer break, was promoted to Vice-President and Sales Manager. As part of his vision for furthering the company's growth, Lyman hired a commercial sales consultant and began to pursue business in the commercial repair and replacement market.
Today, Jackson & Sons employs over 50 co-workers during the peak summer season, and occupies over 22,000 square feet of office, training, warehouse, and sheet metal manufacturing facilities. In 2007, Jackson & Sons was recognized by INC. Magazine as one of the 5,000 fastest growing companies in the United States. The commitments of every staff member to provide each Jackson & Sons customer with a superior sales or service experience is evident in the amount of business that is generated through customer referrals. Not surprisingly, Jackson & Sons has grown into one of the largest and most respected heating and air conditioning companies in North Carolina. In the 36 years since their humble beginnings, the one thing that has remained the same through all the industry changes, is Jackson & Sons’ desire to give every single customer one less thing to worry about—being comfortable in their own home or business.
