Wilkes-Barre Wyoming Valley Airport

The 30,000 square yards of existing bituminous concrete pavement was reclaimed in place into a one inch minus material. 51,000 gallons of emulsion was added to stabilize the new subbase. Precision grading was performed on the subbase with an automated GPS grader. Once the grades were verified and the weather was right, 4,300 tons of HMA Base Asphalt and 2,900 tons of HMA Wearing Asphalt were placed with precision automatic grade controlled paver. Full depth saw cuts were made every seventy-five linear feet and sealed with rubberized joint sealant. At the project’s completion, new pavement markings were installed on the runway making it officially open for air traffic.
