About Bronx Lebanon Hospital
Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center cares for patients in the central and south Bronx, no doubt while rooting for the Yankees a few blocks away. The health care provider maintains more than 970 beds across its two campuses, as well as psychiatric and nursing home facilities. Hospital specialty units include chest pain, orthopedic, cancer, and women's health centers. Bronx-Lebanon also manages a network of about 70 owned and affiliated medical practices; the network -- branded as BronxCare -- includes primary care doctors and specialty clinics, as well as rehabilitation facilities. The hospital is also a primary teaching hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Operations

Aside from its two major hospitals, Bronx-Lebanon Hospital operates a psychiatric facility, a pair of specialized long-term care facilities, and a BronxCare network of medical practices that include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center and a 51-unit facility to house seniors and low-income residents. Bronx-Lebanon cares for those with mental or substance abuse problems through the Family Wellness Center.

Geographic Reach

The hospital system serves residents of central and south Bronx in New York.

Strategy

Bronx-Lebanon emphasizes its role as a community health care provider, not only through its BronxCare network, but through a number of community outreach and service efforts, including school-based programs, mobile health units, free health screening, and even a weekly live television show that discusses health issues.

To accommodate the growing population in and around the Bronx, the hospital system has expanded in recent years with a new children's wing for inpatient and outpatient services; a nine-story ambulatory care facility; and an extensive emergency room modernization. Bronx-Lebanon also maintains a short stay observation unit in the emergency room area to monitor and evaluate patients in cardiac distress prior to admission or discharge.

Bronx-Lebanon is one of many hospital organizations to have joined a regional health information organization (RHIO) to allow medical professionals to access a patient's medical records at any number of health care locations. Other members of the Bronx RHIO include Montefiore Medical Center, Jacobi Medical Center, St. Barnabas Hospital, and Hebrew Home at Riverdale.
