You Grow As We Grow
In 1926, two engineers, Jimmy Wills and Harold Swann, joined together and purchased the La Plata Oil and Mechanicsville Oil Companies, forming Southern Maryland Oil. From eight employees then to more than 300 now, we’ve grown dramatically and have diversified into convenience, food, and car washes, and work hard every day to deliver outstanding service, build lasting relationships with our customers and employees, and give back to communities where we work and live.
We know that our success is determined by the skill, creativity, and know-how of our people. We offer on-the-job training and development and strive to build a culture that promotes personal and professional growth for all. When our people excel, it also helps their families and communities excel.

We feel that our community engagement program is so much more than charitable check writing. It’s about that and rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty. Over the years, and in partnership with community-based organizations, we helped clean up and refurbish homes that had fallen into disrepair and packed lunches for children who experience hunger during the summertime when they don’t have access to food at school. Our Dash In business specifically focuses its efforts on ending childhood hunger and we are grateful for our employees who pitch in to do good work for the community both inside and outside the stores.
While giving back has always been part of The Wills Group’s DNA, we look forward to doing more as we work together to keep Lives in Motion – and we would love additional helping hands to join us!
