History
Acadian Ambulance Service

From Very Humble Beginnings

We began our operations in Lafayette, Louisiana, in 1971, as the departure of funeral homes from the ambulance transportation field brought on a nationwide emergency due to new federal regulations.

In the midst of that crisis, Acadian Ambulance was established and trained the first emergency medical technicians (EMTs) in the state of Louisiana. Our two ambulances and eight employees served the 279 square miles of Lafayette Parish.

47 Years and Counting

Technology, Superior Service and Innovation

More than four decades and six divisions later, Acadian Companies has grown to have almost 5,000 employees across the United States, ranging from nationally registered EMTs and pilots to health and safety professionals and support staff.

Our fleet contains more than 550 ground ambulances, helicopters and fixed-wing airplanes. We provide emergency, non-emergency and van/bus transports and operate stations in more than 70 parishes and counties spanning Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.

Since our inception, Acadian Ambulance has been recognized as one of the nation’s best emergency medical services in the industry. Our incorporation of the latest and greatest technology, superior service and innovation in the medical field has earned us honors and led to our tremendous growth.
Culture
Commitment to Our Community

In an area known for a family-centric culture with strong communities and hard workers, Acadian Ambulance grew out of our community’s need for emergency medical support and care. Commitment to our community, along with our love of the people within it, guided us in the beginning and is our driving force today. Even with our expansive growth across multiple states, this mindset continues to be the foundation of our organization. We are proud to care for our family, friends, and neighbors.

As Acadian employees, we have a great deal of pride in our work, and we see every day as an opportunity to make a difference. Our passion and compassion guide our actions as we treat more than just the injury or ailment, but the person as a whole. Our innovation and use of new technology help us to improve our services and care for our customers.

The Acadian Way

As employee-owners, we all have a stake in the company and our day-to-day actions directly affect Acadian’s success — something we are always conscious of and working toward.

We each get the chance to grow, change, and try different things to help improve our services and positively affect the lives of others.

Passion, compassion, dedication, investment, and innovation…that’s the Acadian way.

Community Involvement

Commitment to Our Communities

When we helped our first patients back in 1971, our goal was to provide our community with the best and most advanced emergency health care available. Since then, Acadian has grown to care for many communities across the country. Our commitment to our communities, and the people who make them special, is what drives us to be the best we can be in our industry.

We are humbled by the endless support of our families, friends, neighbors, local businesses, and fellow EMS providers. Our utmost appreciation and gratitude go to those who support and share in our vision of caring for those in need.

Investment in Our Communities

As a demonstration of our community investment, our paramedics stand by at college and high school athletic events as well as major community activities such as fairs and festivals with Med Carts—our fleet of fully equipped emergency medical vehicles. These Med Carts allow advanced life support equipment to be maneuvered through crowded areas to victims of accident or illness.

Giving Back

As fully invested members of the communities in which we live and organizations we support, all of us in the Acadian family are proud to give back through volunteering time, resources, and heart.

We support many community organizations throughout our service area, and our strong partnerships have provided us opportunities to donate, advocate, and volunteer as a company and as individuals. Acadian employees have volunteered for and served on boards for decades, and we are proud to be affiliated with the work done through these organizations.
ESOP
Employee Stock Ownership Plan

Employee Owned

In 1993, Acadian instituted an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), giving employees the opportunity to own private stock in the company. Acadian sets up a trust fund for qualifying employees and contributes new shares of its own stock or cash to buy existing shares. Acadian employees currently own 80% of the company stock.

A key benefit of this plan is that our employees truly are owners, and therefore are more invested in the work they do. When employees have a sense of pride and ownership in the company, they strengthen its foundation and promote continued growth.
Careers
Dedication, innovation, and heart—these are the driving forces behind Acadian Ambulance’s commitment to excellence in medical care.  As the largest privately-held medical transportation company in the nation, we serve areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas with reliable cutting-edge technologies.  We are a continuously expanding ambulance service that has a solid base of experience dealing with disasters, mass casualty accidents, and both emergency and non-emergency medical care.  Acadian Ambulance Service seeks individuals who believe in our mission of customer service, are enthusiastic about impacting the lives of others, and who want to join a culture of innovation, dedication, and growth.
