About Utica National Insurance Group
Utica Mutual is native to the Mohawk Valley, but has spread its insurance business across the US since its 1914 beginnings. As principal member company of the Utica National Insurance Group, Utica Mutual specializes in commercial and personal property/casualty insurance. Its specialty coverage includes products tailored for such groups as child care centers, printers and other graphic communications businesses, schools, and volunteer fire departments. It operates through Graphic Arts Mutual Insurance, Republic-Franklin Insurance, Utica National Assurance, Utica National Insurance Company of Texas, and other subsidiaries. The group sells its products through some 1,475 independent agents and brokers.
Utica Mutual also dominates in a singular niche: providing Errors and Omissions liability insurance and protection for insurance agents and brokers. Other specialties include coverage for cyber breach and loss or theft of personally identifiable information, bonds (contract and commercial surety bonds and fidelity policies), coverage for auto repair shops, and workers' compensation.
The company grew both its product lines and geographic reach in 2010 when it acquired Nationwide Holdings, Inc., the holding company for Founders Insurance of Des Plaines, Illinois, and Founders Insurance Company of Michigan. Founders specializes in property/casualty insurance, particularly non-standard personal automobile policies for customers in the Midwest. It also writes commercial liability and property lines with an emphasis on liquor liability. Utica operates Founders as a stand-alone business.
Other products added in 2010 included programs for janitorial services, kidnap expense coverage, and personal and commercial green coverage among others. Initiatives in the works include expanding its motorcycle program and a new small contactors product. The company has also made technology investments to improve automation and ease of use for its agents and is upgrading its workers' compensation and commercial auto lines to online policy systems.
Utica National Insurance Group had assets of $2.7 billion in 2010; its policyholders' security fund exceeded $815 million.

2020 has been a disruptive year for many people – personally and professionally. It’s at times like these where the way we do business – “Secure-Appreciate-Respect” – differentiates us as a company and as an employer. Here are a few things we’re doing at Utica National that may interest you as a prospective employee:
We’re Working. Like so many other companies, most of our team members have worked remotely since late March. But that hasn’t slowed the pace of our business – from bringing in new business, to leveraging technology and providing excellent service and support to our current customers.
We’re Hiring. We have welcomed in new employees consistently throughout the COVID period, and continue to have a significant number of jobs open across disciplines and geographies. We just wrapped up a successful summer internship program, and seek new applicants at all experience levels.
We’re Engaging. We’ve always been proud of our culture at Utica National – it’s an important part of what makes us a great company to do business with and a great place to work. Extending that sense of belonging to our remote workspaces has been a vital part of our transition. We created an information hub to share the latest developments and updates, expanded the use of video to make our connections more personal and interactive, added a variety of fun contests on our internal social media site, and continue to welcome and embrace new members of our team remotely.
We’re Rewarding. For three years running we’ve received an industry “Top Insurance Workplace” award based on anonymous surveys of team members. We’ve also updated incentive programs, and adapted some of our policies and practices to help employees balance work responsibilities with personal, health and family needs. Plus, we’ll be launching a robust new platform for internal career pathing to expand options for development and growth.
Thank you for taking a moment to explore career opportunities with us. View our open positions and apply, or feel free to contact us at Talent.Acquisition@UticaNational.com. We’d love to hear from you!

We’re proud to announce that the Utica National Group Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Utica National Insurance Group, is giving a $250,000 grant to the The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, which will distribute the donation to nearly three dozen local food pantries and soup kitchens throughout the counties, as well as contract with local restaurants to provide food for those who need it most.
We’re hoping this grant will help fight food insecurities in our local communities during this difficult time.
