About East Kentucky Power Cooperative
More than 1.1 million Kentucky residents and thousands of businesses depend on EKPC for reliable, affordable, sustainable energy every day. Based just minutes from Lexington, Ky., EKPC generates and transmits energy to power homes, offices, schools, stores, hospitals and factories in 87 counties.
As a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative, we are focused on serving 16 electric cooperatives by providing reliable energy every moment of every day at affordable rates.
EKPC generates electricity at traditional fossil power plants, as well as a 60-acre solar-energy farm and innovative plants fueled by methane from landfills. EKPC delivers energy over nearly 2,900 miles of high-voltage transmission facilities, which we own and maintain. EKPC also is a member of PJM Interconnection, a regional transmission organization that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in all or parts of 13 states.
EKPC works closely with its 16 owner-member electric cooperatives to offer energy efficiency and demand-side management options to help members manage their bills. And we work with our co-ops to ensure vibrant local economies by working to bring jobs and investment to Kentucky.

Committed to Kentucky
Electric cooperatives provide energy, but that is only part of our story. Since the very beginning, we have been improving lives in rural Kentucky. When we first brought electric power to rural homes and farms, daunting tasks like lighting, cooking, heating, etc., became much simpler and much safer.
We remain dedicated to the people we serve. For more than 75 years, EKPC has generated and delivered the energy that fuels Kentucky’s economy.
Today, we continue improving lives by providing reliable, affordable energy 24/7/365, whether your home or business is located downtown or on a mountaintop. We are committed to the communities we serve, because that’s where we live, work and play.
