A "Best Places to Work Winner"
For the past seven years, Marshall Dennehey has been recognized by the Philadelphia Business Journal as a "Best Places to Work" and in 2017 and in 2019 we won the category for extra large companies! This recognition is based on feedback from the firm's employees, making it an especially meaningful award. The criteria evaluated for Best Places to Work includes company culture, benefits and employee perks–it's hard to top our firmwide "Summer Hours" program that offers a shortened workday on Fridays between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Welcoming Culture
At Marshall Dennehey, each and every employee of the firm in all of our offices is treated with the utmost respect. This distinctive culture is perpetuated by the firm's senior management who maintain an "open door policy" and are very approachable; always willing to lend an ear or offer direction or advice, to any employee. As a result, many employees have remained with the firm for all or a significant part of their careers. Attorneys and staff are convivial and share in firmwide events including Super Bowl and March Madness contests; birthday celebrations; the annual Halloween parade; sports appreciation days; charity events; annual holiday parties, and much more.
The Right Career Move
All of these activities help contribute to a family-like work atmosphere which, in turn, leads to happy, motivated and productive employees. When combined with the outstanding benefits package and employee perks that Marshall Dennehey offers, the result is a company where you can begin, or continue to grow and build your career. In fact, this may be your last job search.

Our history of promoting minority attorneys goes back a generation to when Hiliary Holloway became the firm’s first African-American shareholder in 1988. Presently, we have several minority attorneys who hold positions of senior leadership at the firm. Niki Ingram led the firm’s Workers’ Compensation Department for many years and served on our Board of Directors for 13 years. Michael Turner, co-chair of the firm’s asbestos practice group, is a current member of the firm’s Board of Directors. William Banton chairs the Philadelphia office’s Health Care group, and Butler Buchanan, III is the managing attorney of the firm’s Philadelphia headquarter office, chairs the firm’s Diversity Committee and is the firm’s hiring attorney. In Florida, Michael Archibald is the managing attorney of our Tampa office.
We seek to hire or promote minorities across professional and support staff as well. The leadership of our Information Technology Department is minority, and professionals of various ethnic backgrounds serve as managers and supervisors across many administrative departments of the firm.
DIVERSITY INITIATIVES
The Diversity Committee has set into place a number of initiatives that assist in both hiring and retaining attorneys of color. We have a mentoring system in place where our minority shareholders reach out to our younger minority associates to provide them with support, counsel and encouragement, which can make a significant difference in their professional progression.
In addition to mentorship, we hold an annual meeting and dinner in our Philadelphia headquarters office for attorneys of color. Attorneys from all of our 20 offices attend this event where educational seminars, specifically designed to assist those of color to thrive in a majority environment, are given. These seminars are led by internal and external speakers. This event concludes with a dinner that focuses on camaraderie and making horizontal connections within the greater firm for an added layer of encouragement and support.
We encourage our minority attorneys to engage in affinity groups that will further their professional development and growth. You will find them at meetings and events of the National Bar Association, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Hispanic National Bar Association, Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, and other regional groups in the cities and communities where we retain offices.
