In 1972, Tom and Mary Shields owned and operated the Madalawn Nursing Home in Brockton, Massachusetts, and committed themselves to exceptional patient care and clinical excellence. Over the next 10 years, Tom and Mary established the largest regional dialysis center in New England. Bringing exceptional care to the local community was a model they would repeat with the opening of the first independent regional MRI center in 1986. Today, we’ve expanded to more than 30 facilities throughout New England, offering MRI, PET/CT, Ambulatory Surgery, Urgent Care and Radiation Therapy services with an extraordinary team of caring professionals—while remaining a family-owned and operated organization. Ambulatory Surgical Centers – As the demand for outpatient surgical services continues to grow, and healthcare reform puts more pressure on hospitals to deliver lower cost care, Shields is the premier partner that hospitals choose to develop, operationalize and manage their ambulatory surgery centers.
