About PCC Community Markets
PCC Community Markets (PCC) is Seattle’s original — and the nation’s largest — certified organic, community-owned food market. What started with a few Seattle families in 1953 is now a passionate community that believes in the power of good food and the potential of good people; a place where the best of the Northwest comes together, from the produce we stock to the people we hire.
We embrace stewardship and take action because we care. As one of the most trusted grocers in the Puget Sound, we foster high standards and look to our staff members to build trust by acting with integrity — toward our members and shoppers, and toward each other.

One of the best parts of working at a grocery store like PCC is that we have endless possibilities to join our team! Here is an overview of the major areas of work:
Co-op Office:
Our main office is located in Downtown Seattle and works to support our stores and communities. These positions could include, HR, Merchandising, IT, Marketing, Social and Environmental Responsibility and more! Check back often to see our current opportunities.
Store leadership:
Each store is lead by a Store Director (SD) and either one or two Assistant Store Directors (ASD). Each department also it's own manager as well. Each store also has several people in the role of Person-In-Charge, who oversees the store in the absence of a SD or ASD.
Deli:
We make as much food as possible from scratch, which means our Deli departments often make up half the store staff in a location. We have something in the Deli for everyone!
If you don't have much food service experience, you can start as a Deli Helper Clerk, whose work involves customer service and some prep work. Pizza, Barista, Sandwich, Salad and Counter service positions are often Deli Helper Clerks who focus on a specific area of the Deli. Cooks are vital to our hot bar, soup and recipe production. Kitchen Managers and Deli Leads support the Deli Manager and help run the department.
Grocery:
Our grocery teams work day and night to keep our shelves full, fresh and fully stocked. Grocery includes both dry goods and much of our refrigerated and frozen product as well. Grocery helper clerks, grocery clerks, night crew, grocery Leads, grocery Coordinators and Receivers all support this department.
Produce:
Work with fresh fruits and vegetables supplied by local farms! Produce helper clerks, produce clerks, Leads and Coordinators all work together to receive, stock and refresh product. We get new seasonal produce all year, so produce staff also help customers learn about exciting new fruits and veggies.
Beer & Wine:
We offer a variety of local beers, wines and liquor in our stores. We love working with small vendors! As a Beer and Wine Clerk or Specialist, you help stock product, order, support customers and cashier as needed.
Health and Body Care:
This department includes our vitamins, body care products, makeup, tinctures, dietary supplements and more! If you are passionate about health and wellness, especially natural remedies and sustainable products, this department is for you. Apply to be a HBC back up/ HBC Coordinator or HBC Clerk.
Front End:
Our cashiers and courtesy clerks connect with customers, ring up purchases, bag groceries and keep our stores clean and beautiful. Join this team if you love talking to and engaging with others!

PCC Community Markets can be a great place to build a career. 20 percent of our staff have been with the co-op for more than a decade.
We provide on the job training, tuition/education reimbursement, development programs and access to an apprenticeship to support staff development. We are a growing company and adding new stores means new opportunities for leadership!
Pictured is Produce Lead Thinley Gyatso, who says it’s the supportive culture that makes PCC stand out, from providing ongoing education and training for his job to accommodating his schedule so he can pick up his 5 and 8-year-old sons after school to helping take care of unexpected medical bills at home thanks to his fantastic health care benefits.
Thinley has worked at PCC since 1996 and and loves sharing both produce recommendations and real conversations with customers. He appreciates the chance to share his passion for positive change; he’s traveled to Washington D.C. five times during to discuss Tibetan human rights issues.
Another topic that’s important to him? PCC’s relationship with local farmers. He and his team regularly visit organic farms in Eastern Washington, Sequim and Skagit Valley to learn first-hand how their produce is grown.
No matter where you start at PCC Community Markets, planting roots here means a chance to grow both personally and professionally.

Recent equity updates:
PCC Community Markets recently joined the JEDI Collaborative, a Natural Products Industry collaborative that champions Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
We partner with Becoming Justice, an organization that: collaborates with organizations to ignite and facilitate transformational leadership development and systemic change through healing and alignment of hearts, minds and actions to create racially liberated systems.
All of our leaders go through Leading for Racial Equity trainings, including all Hiring Managers
All staff take courses on unconscious bias and we are proactive about discussing issues faced by our BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ staff. Staff at our recently opened stores learned about the history of the local community and important topics like retail racism and microaggressions as part of their orientation.
We take language access seriously and both celebrate and support staff who speak multiple languages and/or are learning English. In addition to providing translated training materials etc we also offer reimbursement for language classes after a staff member's first 60 days in role.
Investing in and supporting local organizations has always been important to us and we have an increased focus on diverse community partnerships. One recent partnership was with Ventures, an organization that supports entrepreneurs who want to bring their product store shelves. We invested in micro grants for diverse entrepreneurs and shared merchandising expertise to support product development.
Partnering with a wide variety of nonprofits and job skills organizations to get feedback on our application process, job success and barriers of job seekers helps us learn more about community needs, collaborate on job training and create pipelines to employment
We also have a variety of practices in place to increase access to employment one example: Working with organizations like FareStart to create pathways for recently incarcerated folks. We do not do background checks or drug testing.
