Environmental Engineer Nadine French and Operations Specialist Brice Games recently conducted a waste audit at our Beech Creek Plant, to determine what types of waste is generated and how we can further reduce waste. They collected municipal waste from office spaces, communal spaces such as break rooms, and the plant floor. They then categorized and quantified the waste streams to determine areas where we could reduce, reuse, or recycle waste that is currently being sent to the landfill. A high percentage of waste from the plant floor was comprised of small scraps of PVC film which the plant can granulate and recycle. Additionally, composting and paper/plastic recycling opportunities were identified. The Beech Creek plant is pursuing a goal of being a net zero waste facility.
