About Iceland Foods
Iceland is one of Britain’s fastest-growing and most innovative retailers, recognised as one of the best companies to work for in the UK.
We have always said that Iceland is a Great Place to Work – and we are delighted to have this independently confirmed by the annual Sunday Times Best Companies survey, which has ranked Iceland in the Top Ten Best Big Companies To Work For.
Although we have sales of over £2.7 billion and employ around 25,000 people, our staff agree that working for Iceland feels like being part of a family. We believe that the key to success in retailing is looking after our customers properly, and that starts with looking after each other.

With over 900 stores throughout the UK, a further 40 owned or franchised stores across Europe, and a global export business, we're a unique business.
We're different. We care. We're not a dull, stuffy corporate. We're Iceland. We're one big team. A diverse group of people who get stuck in and work together. Whatever our job, we do it our way. So, be part of it, roll your sleeves up and make a difference. Be proud. Be brave. Be everything that makes us different. Be Iceland

Iceland is an entrepreneurial business and that’s exactly the way our founder, Malcolm Walker, likes it to be. Malcolm is a far from conventional Chief Exec. He left school without academic qualifications but quickly found that the fast pace and freedom of retail suited him. He started Iceland with a starting capital of just £30 and a single small shop in Oswestry, Wales. Once he’d been fired from his day-job at Woolworths, he was able to concentrate on Iceland full time and grow the business into the Iceland that we know today.
Iceland now employs more than 25,000 people in the UK, having spent the last few years opening new stores and creating more jobs. But no matter how many people join the team, the culture of the company will always reflect Malcolm’s own style, personality and vision. He’s intensely proud of the people who work here and always committed to rewarding the people who help Iceland grow.
As our business grows, we’ve always ensured that we keep our promises to our people. The pay and conditions we offer our Store Colleagues mean that our retail teams are amongst the best paid on the high street. As a testament to the way he looks after his employees, Malcolm was recently named "Most People Focused CEO" at the 2014 HR Excellence Awards.

Iceland has more than 800 stores. In every store, it feels like being part of a family. We treat each other with respect, help each other to develop and we have a bit of fun as well!
At Iceland, we think we’ve discovered the key to great retail: if we look after our people, then they will look after our customers. Simple, isn’t it? Each year, our Annual Staff Survey shows just how well we’re doing. In 2014, 92% of our retail employees stated that they were proud to work for Iceland. 91% felt a strong sense of belonging to their team and 93% enjoy the work they do. The same number said that their manager treats them fairly and 92% would recommend Iceland as a good place to work.
As you’d expect, we were pretty pleased with that – and when our people are saying such good things about us, you know it’s got to be true!
Because we look after our people so well, they look after our customers. So everyone who walks through the door of an Iceland store is made to feel welcome, valued and respected – just like our employees.

As a place to live, Deeside offers all the variety you need to suit your lifestyle. The greenery of North Wales isn’t far, with villages like Hawarden providing quality of life whilst Chester, the Wirral, Liverpool, and Manchester are all within easy commuting distance.
Deeside is also a great place to work – just like Iceland itself. Our Head Office is a modern office environment with around 500 employees. It’s where you’ll find all of our Retail Support functions, such as Supply Chain, Buying, Finance, HR and Marketing. So there’s a really diverse mix of people and skill sets, from graduates through to Senior Managers and Directors.
Of course, we may be an office rather than a store, but there’s still the recognisable Iceland Senior Managers and Directors are very visible around the office. It’s rewarding too. As well as great career opportunities for retail professionals, our Deeside office has a Costa, a dry-cleaning drop and collect and an amazing restaurant with a truly astonishing, subsidised daily menu. It’s just another way of showing our people how much we value them.

No frills. No fuss. Lots of fun. Very down to earth. And big on personality and getting things done.
The pace here is lightning quick. We value our colleagues. And together we work hard, challenge the norm and go the extra mile to make our customers happy. That’s what it’s like to work here every day. Iceland isn’t for everyone. It can be challenging and the pressure can be on. But if you’re friendly, customer focused and always positive, Iceland is for you!
Iceland is a great place to work – and you don’t have to take our word for that. It is a fact independently confirmed by the annual Sunday Times Best Companies survey, which has ranked Iceland among the Best Big Companies To Work For in the UK every year for the last twelve years and has twice awarded us the Number One spot, in 2012 and 2014. These excellent results provide authoritative, external confirmation of the results of our own regular Straight Talk staff surveys, which show industry-leading levels of engagement and job satisfaction throughout the company.
