About Engineered Floors
Engineered Floors began at what conventional wisdom would say was the worst time to start a new carpet company – the beginning of what is now referred to as “the Great Recession” in 2008. Not only did the housing bubble burst, having a severely adverse effect on the floor covering industry, but the carpet category itself was in what seemed like an irreversible slide in its share of flooring to hard surface favorites like hardwood and ceramic. Many said the carpet industry’s best days were over.

Founder Bob Shaw believed two things to be true, regardless of the economic circumstances of the day: 1) Americans love carpet and will always have a place for it in their homes and 2) the economic downturn will eventually turn itself around. So, while other mills were shuttering plants and laying off employees, Engineered Floors was breaking ground in north Georgia on the first new carpet mill in more than 30 years.
