About Cunningham Children's Home
At our core, Cunningham Children's Home is about creating options, opening doors, and taking first steps.
Cunningham Children's Home's vision is to see every child thrive by providing a safe place to heal, learn, and grow.
We all want and need the same things but we haven’t all had the same opportunities. At Cunningham, a community converges to give hope to those who need it most—youth who suffer from serious emotional and behavioral challenges that have been caused by abuse, neglect, mental illness, and more.
Through comprehensive programs and services, we provide expert care to help our kids learn positive coping and behavioral skills, to achieve realistic academic goals, and to develop the life skills necessary to be successful in our community.
Cunningham is an exemplary child welfare and educational services agency that provides caring support and therapeutic intervention to more than 450 children, youth, young adults, and their families each year.

To provide a safe and nurturing environment for children.
In 1895, Judge Joseph and Mary Cunningham deeded their home and 15 acres to the Women of the Methodist Episcopal Church, now the United Methodist Women. Their country home was given with the understanding that it would provide a safe and nurturing environment for children in need. At the time Judge Cunningham wrote in his personal journal: “May God’s blessing go with this gift, and may it be the means of doing much good.”
In the beginning, and for many years to follow, Cunningham served as a safe and stable home for children who had lost their parents or whose parents could not care for them. But as needs of children changed with time, Cunningham broadened its mission to serve the needs of children with emotional, behavioral, and special educational needs. Through comprehensive services including residential treatment, special education and community based services, Cunningham transforms lives by helping youth and families reach their potential.

Employee Health and Wellness
Employee health and wellness is a priority at Cunningham Children's Home. In 2017, Cunningham's Wellness Committee, comprised of our employees, kicked off the "Love Yourself" Employee Wellness Program and it was well received! With great participation, our employees learned a lot, made healthier choices and had a lot of fun.
Activities throughout the year included the Love Yourself Smart Snacking Week, Employee Walking Challenge, and Employee Appreciation Week which included themes each day and concluded with the Employee Wellness Fair. In addition, Cunningham has partnered with JumpStart Weight Loss at the Matzner Clinic and Weight Watchers to give employees weight loss options. Several on the JumpStart program have already met their weight loss goals and in the first 12 week Weight Watchers series, Cunningham staff lost over 200 pounds collectively!
