Clinical Excellence Nursing Program
The Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Clinical Excellence Nursing Program was developed by a diverse group of clinical nurses from all areas of the organization. The program provides advancement opportunities for clinical staff nurses, recognizing and financially rewarding demonstrated achievement of clinical excellence and behaviors consistent with American Nurses Association standards of professional nursing practice. The purpose of the program is to:
- Increase job satisfaction through professional development activities
- Improve the quality of patient care through evidence-based practice project initiatives
- Enhance recruitment and retention of bedside nursing associates
The program provides an instrument to help nurses advance in the achievement of their professional goals and portfolio development, emphasizing clinical practice, quality, patient safety and shared decision making. The program provides strong support and stimulus for furthering evidence-based practice and nursing research within Spartanburg Regional. The program was designed to align with Spartanburg Regional’s strategic plan.
Nurse Residency Program (Transition to Practice)
The Nurse Residency Program at Spartanburg Regional is designed to transition new graduates from students to competent, professional nurses with the tools and skills needed to provide safe, quality care. The program provides support and education from experienced mentors in the field and enables participants to grow their knowledge, confidence, leadership and critical-thinking skills.
This yearlong program includes:
- Monthly learning sessions covering topics such as communication techniques, patient safety, quality and a variety of other skills-based and patient care competencies
- Group discussions
- Monthly meetings with an experienced nurse mentor
- Transition support from peers and program leaders
- Active learning methods

The council is comprised of three subcommittees that provide guidance and recommendations for diversity and inclusion strategies.
2. Health Equity Subcommittee
The Health Equity Subcommittee uses data to identify differences in treatment, access, outcomes and other variables. When identified, the subcommittee researches factors that contribute to imbalances and makes recommendations to improve care.
3. LGBTQIA Equality Subcommittee
The LGBTQIA Subcommittee works to educate the associates of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System regarding the needs of the LGBTQIA community. Understanding that the LGBTQIA community has been historically underserved and has unique needs, the subcommittee strives to enhance patient care and bridge healthcare disparities. The subcommittee aims to assist SRHS in providing comprehensive, compassionate care regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
4. 15 CLAS Standards Education Subcommittee
The 15 CLAS Standards Education Subcommittee works to improve understanding and disseminate information regarding the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services across the healthcare system. The subcommittee provides cultural awareness and education for associates of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. The goal of the subcommittee is to foster a greater awareness of the benefits of diversity and a culture of respect through education.
