About Covered California
Covered California was made possible by the passage of the historic Affordable Care Act in 2010, and since its creation, has been on a mission to improve the health of all Californians by providing access to affordable, quality medical insurance. We are an independent state agency with a mission to improve health care for all Californians.
Since 2014, more than 3 million people have purchased health insurance through Covered California, and nearly 4 million have enrolled in the state’s Medi-Cal program. Together, the gains have cut the rate of the uninsured in California from 17 percent in 2013 to a historic low of 6.8 percent at the end of 2017.
These accomplishments, in part, were made possible by the dedicated men and women of our agency who represent the rich diversity reflected in California.
