About BlueFire Wilderness Therapy
Blue Fire Wilderness Therapy is a comprehensive and licensed intervention for teens who are struggling in their lives. We provide a state of the art and unprecedented treatment approach by incorporating a multi-disciplinary treatment team to participate in the treatment planning and implementation for every child and family. We utilize an ideal balance of wilderness expeditions, high adventure activities, equine interaction, individual and group therapy, academic work, service projects and family connections, all designed to deliver treatment opportunities and life skills attainment.
Going above and beyond traditional wilderness therapy interventions Blue Fire involves a breadth of experiences from a multi-disciplinary treatment team. (Psychologist, Primary Therapist, Recreation Therapist, Academic Director, Family Therapist, Equine Specialist, Physician/RN). This progressive approach means that every student and family gains the benefit of a team of professionals who understand the comprehensive and subtle aspects that can be gained in the outdoor setting. End goals are substantiated and supported by a comprehensive treatment plan, involving input from all disciplines.
Blue Fire immerses each student in the wilderness program setting to interrupt the pattern of negative behaviors, elicit a true desire for life change, and identify a concrete plan for long term success. We work in concert with parents, and involved professionals, to determine the most appropriate plan for long term progress. As part of this family systems approach, parents participate in a multi-day, family workshop where they witness their child’s successes and address behavioral progress and ongoing concerns within the parent-child relationship. Preparing for transition (either home or placement) is the final emphasis of treatment.
Located in the high plains desert at the base of the Sawtooth Mountains in southeast Idaho, the Blue Fire team are pioneers of wilderness therapy programs with over 30 years of experience working with struggling teens and their families. We believe that our combination of wilderness environment and adventure activities create the ideal therapeutic milieu in which to help students recognize and build upon their sense of self-worth. Our multi-disciplined treatment team provides a comprehensive and highly individualized treatment plan for every single child and family. Our “identified client” is the family system, not just the acting out child who is placed for behavioral and emotional concerns.
