About Central State Hospital
Central State Hospital is a 277-bed, Joint Commission accredited, state psychiatric facility in Petersburg, VA. We offer a challenging and rewarding environment, and a rare opportunity to make an immediate and significant impact on the lives of individuals who are disenfranchised and underserved.
The facility houses civil and forensic patients, and includes Virginia’s only Maximum Security program. For those who are interested in forensic work, this program allows extensive learning opportunities on a wide variety of psycholegal issues.
If you are a clinician, working at Central State Hospital means you will be unfettered by the hassles of managed care, and you will be supported by an administration that values self-care and work/life balance. We are currently in the pre-planning phase for the building of a new facility.
