About Roanoke City Public Schools
Roanoke City Public Schools is an urban school division in Southwestern Virginia, in an All-American City. We're a diverse school division, with 13,686 students and a staff of approximately 2,200. We have 17 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 2 high schools (each high school is approximately 10 years old). Our on-time graduation rate is 90%, which is the state average for Virginia.
RCPS offers 27 Advanced Placement (AP) courses for high school students, and extensive, fine arts and athletics programs. RCPS has Pre-AP / Honors programs at all middle schools. High school students can take dual enrollment classes at Virginia Western Community College. We also have a variety of Career and Technical Education offerings, and during the 2017-18 school year, 1,596 industry certifications were awarded.
All students in the division have access to musical instruments, thanks to a partnership with the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. Middle and high schools have string orchestras, bands, and choral programs.
Students participate in 42 different sports programs at the middle and high school levels.
