About TWN Industries, Inc
Incorporated in 1994, TWN Industries has built a reputation based on an unwavering commitment to excellence. We have dedicated our lives to developing Water Transfer Printing technology that delivers high-value solutions to our surface coating customers. Reliable delivery and service, consistent product quality, and new technological innovations are the cornerstones of who we are and have set us apart from the competition.
What is Water Transfer PrintingWater Transfer Printing is a surface decorating process where intricate graphics like wood grain, carbon fiber, camouflage, or designer patterns are applied to 3-dimensional products.
Our Water Transfer Printing films can be applied to all types of substrates, especially plastic. For the most part, if the item can be submerged in water, it can be processed using our Water Transfer Printing technology. TWN Industries, Inc. has over 400 patterns available to take your products to the next level.
The Process
Water Transfer Printing is very similar to a traditional paint process. Depending on the substrate, an adhesion promoter is applied to a fully-prepped part. Next, a base coat paint is applied. This controls the hue of the overall finish and gives you the flexibility to fine-tune its aesthetic.
For example, when using our Brazilian Rosewood pattern, you can use a dark red base coat to accentuate the underlying warm tones.
After the base coat is applied, the item is ready for decorating. The water-soluble PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) film material is placed on the surface of the water and sits for a short dwell period.
Next, our proprietary chemical activator is sprayed onto the film. This catalyzes the inks and transforms them into a liquid state. We have developed an Automated Spray System that controls the activation process in a production environment.
Once the film is activated, you submerge the item at a consistent speed and angle. Water displacement causes the suspended inks to adhere to the surface and wrap seamlessly around the product. This process can be fully-automated with a material robot or our Processing Arm.
Excess PVA residue is then washed off. This is the most crucial and labor-intensive step. We have developed a Conveyor Wash System to facilitate this process.
Finally, the part is set to air dry, and a clear topcoat is applied.
Our Services
TWN Industries, Inc. is the pioneer of Water Transfer Printing technology. We provide supplies, equipment, training, and consulting to large manufacturers and small businesses who wish to utilize our surface coating process.
