About The Independence Center
The Independence Center (The IC) is a local nonprofit organization that provides traditional and self-directed home health care, independent living, and advocacy services for people with disabilities. These services range from providing peer support, skills classes, and employment assistance to individual and systems advocacy. The IC’s mission is to work with people with disabilities, their families, and the community to create independence so all may thrive.
Working to Make a Difference
Working at The Independence Center is more than just a job. It’s a way to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of others.
As a nonprofit organization, our mission is to work with people with disabilities, their families, and the community, to create independence so that all may thrive. To help individuals build the lives they want, our dedicated, friendly staff walks alongside them, offering support and resources through our Center for Independent Living and our Home Health division.
Our organization changes the lives of not only the people we serve, but the people who work here. As one of our staff members put it, “I’m always excited when I talk to someone and then I see them come in later and they’re happy and really independent. They’re thriving because they’re in control. It’s life-changing to see that.”
Caring for Our Staff
As an employee of The Independence Center, you are not only doing meaningful, important work, you are truly valued and cared for. We provide a supportive work environment, competitive pay, great benefits for full-time and part-time employees, and exceptional work/life balance. We also recognize that everyone needs a chance to relax and have some fun; so our “Fun Committee” plans regular events like potlucks and professional chair massages as a way of saying, “Thanks for all you do!’
Our Culture
The Independence Center celebrates and thrives on diversity and differences. Our agency staff embodies a wide range of visible and hidden disabilities, modeling empowerment for those they serve. We believe in assuming positive intent and treating each other with kindness, compassion, and respect. Our culture is driven by our five Core Values, which guide how we interact with each other and conduct ourselves on the job.
If you’re looking for an organization that values your experience, perspective, and dedication — and you want a fulfilling, interesting job with terrific colleagues — we encourage you to apply. Quite simply, The Independence Center is a wonderful place to work!
