Letter from COO
Dear Future NAL Team Member,
My name is Kirk Gadberry and I have the privilege of serving as North American Lighting’s President & COO. I have had the distinct pleasure of working at NAL for nearly 29 years. During this time, I have witnessed astounding growth and dramatic technological changes. When I joined NAL in 1992 we had approximately 1,000 team members and $100 million in annual sales revenue. Today, the NAL team is comprised of 5,700 employees with 2018 revenue exceeding $1.5 billion.
NAL is fortunate to have Koito Manufacturing Co. as our parent company, as that uniquely positions us to offer world-class advanced lighting technologies to our North American customers. As an example, we are on the brink of producing products such as Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) headlamps that effectively allow for fulltime high beam usage without concerns for glare affecting other vehicles. Even more advanced is our cutting-edge sensing technologies that will soon be placed in headlamps and signal lamps. These will facilitate autonomous driving and communication with other vehicles and your surroundings.
The future of automotive lighting technology is an exciting one. Never in our history has the future been so bright. With great employees, a great parent company, and great customers, NAL is prepared to lead the way for the next generation of automotive lighting. I encourage you to check out our employee reviews, which are consistently filled with positive remarks about working at NAL. Employees describe NAL as having, “excellent benefits”, “great career advancement”, “competitive pay” and “great co-workers”.
Let me close by challenging you to consider joining the NAL team. We are experiencing tremendous growth and are actively pursuing the best talent in North America. If you feel you have such qualities, please dig deeper into our company and consider one of our many open positions, which can be found at jobs.nal.com. I look forward seeing you at work one day!
Best Regards,
Kirk Gadberry

NAL is celebrating over 80 years of collaboration and innovation. We are pioneers in automotive lighting from LEDs to adaptive driving beams, and are now pursuing the latest technology in autonomous driving. We operate according to kaizen management principles, which means we manage, measure and improve everything we do. NAL’s engineers work with the vehicle manufacturers from concept to product launch in tailoring lighting products to new model specifications.
In 2017, we opened a research center in California to strengthen the Koito Group’s position in the rapidly advancing field of vehicle mobility. One main area of interest is the integration of sensors within headlights and taillights. Sensor systems are a key technology for enabling autonomous driving. The four corners of the vehicle combine for the optimal 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings. The lights provide an existing framework for placing sensing devices at these corners, without infringing on vehicle styling.

"I started my career at NAL in 2014 unaware of the potential growth over the next few years. NAL, as an automotive tier 1 exterior lighting supplier, has not only focused on delivering quality products to OEMs such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Ford and GM, but they have also invested heavily in their employees to ensure satisfaction and show appreciation."
Job Satisfaction: Being part of a company that structures their architecture based on safety is a privilege. In 2016 35,000 fatalities occurred on US roadways alone. NALs mission is to provide not only stylishly branded headlights but also to improve the functional safety of exterior lighting thereby increasing visibility and hopefully reducing fatalities. The opportunity to see the value added to the end product design and implementation on a vehicle was very satisfying to me.
Growth: The industry is growing rapidly and NAL is keeping up with the pace. They are not only focusing on core business but have also started to innovate in order to support a new era of transportation that is, autonomous driving. With so much diversification in activity taking place, structured career growth for employees has been clearly defined by managers and our Human Resources department. NAL also focuses on continuous training to support its employees and prepare them for future.
Social Impact: NAL consistently supports the community and continues to find ways to give back. Browsing our Linkedin or Facebook page will allow you to see the magnitude of our impact. Management is also always open to new ideas on how to support the community.
Innovation: NAL understands the value of innovation and has never been one to become complacent. We follow the kaizen philosophy of continuous improvement and have established an office Silicon Valley to focus on finding startups in the mobility space that align with our vision of making transportation as safe as possible.
Management: I have worked at many different companies but find NAL’s management to be most competent in terms of product knowledge, strategy development, decision making, and execution. They understand and respect employees and cultivate a working environment that allows us vocalize improvements in design or express conflicts in the work place.
Salary and Benefits: NAL has developed a higher than industry standard compensation package. NAL understands the value of education and supports those interested in pursuing their degrees.
Whether you want to focus on solving difficult engineering challenges, making the community a better place, or expressing your ideas, NAL is definitely the place for you.
