About BASIS.ed
Our Mission:
At BASIS.ed, the classroom is sacrosanct and student-teacher interaction is the essential educational activity. The value we place on nurturing this relationship is evident in the respect we show toward teachers and the learning process. Teachers open the minds of students to their disciplines. This true partnership and mutual respect is unmistakable in our academic community. Students learn that they can always find a champion in their teachers.

What we do:
BASIS.ed is a dynamic American educational network that manages world quality charter schools in Arizona, Louisiana, Texas, and Washington D.C. BASIS Charter School Curriculum model is designed to prepare students for more than academic success. It prepares people for a lifetime of dreaming and doing. Our culture is driven by a relentless focus on the key factors that improve student learning: we monitor results to ensure that students and teachers are meeting the very high bar that we have set. Our cycle of performance measurements and program management allows the finest employees within BASIS.ed to advance, so that we have a standard to inspire quality in every school that we manage.

Our Story:
At the core of Michael and Olga Block’s educational vision is a belief that the goal of a great education is to provide students with choices, with unbounded opportunities, to send them to college and into their professional lives empowered by the broad and deep content knowledge and critical thinking skills that will enable them to craft their own futures. From the beginning their vision has been more ambitious than opening the best school in Tucson, or Scottsdale or even Arizona. It is to create a dynamic network of the finest schools in the world that can represent America at its best: a K - 12 fusion of creativity, innovation and rigorous experimentation and problem-solving that is the signature of such legendary intellectual communities as Bell Labs and the NASA Apollo program.

Today this network of open-enrollment public charter schools has the mission of redefining education and leading the U. S. and the world in producing breathtaking learning results. The promise of this vision is that expert, passionate teachers inspire their students to fall in love with learning, with the satisfaction to be gained from hard work, with the joy of intellectual and creative effort and with the acceptance of struggle and failure as an inevitable part of a productive and stimulating life. Learning is BASIS.ed’s business. We manage some of the best schools in the world and we are working hard to ensure that more and more students will have access to the opportunity and choices we open for them.
OUR SCHOOLS ARE AMONG THE BEST IN THE WORLD
The average BASIS student not only outperforms the typical U.S. student, they also score higher than their global peers in Shanghai, Finland, and Singapore—countries and regions which are noted for having the best education in the world.

Our curriculum fuels creative thinking and problem solving.

We provide an accelerated and rigorous curriculum to help prepare students for today's workforce. Each grade focuses on building two core skills: the organization of complex tasks and the productive management of limited time.

We motivate students to reach their highest potential and prepare them for the demands of further education, a rewarding career and global citizenship.
WHY TEACH AT BASIS.ED?
Across all 27 BASIS Charter School campuses, 90% of our teachers and staff “strongly agree” or “agree” that they "feel satisfied overall with my experience at this school.”

Teachers who love teaching, teach students who love learning!
Ask any BASIS.ed student what makes their school different and they will first tell you, "the teachers." Our teachers' passion for what they teach creates an environment in which students are nurtured and grow to love learning.

Our teachers are experts in their subjects!
At BASIS.ed, we hire educators with academic degrees in the disciplines they teach. More than 70% of our BASIS.ed teachers have at least a master's degree in their subject.

Our teachers are selected for BASIS.ed quality!
We hire only the most qualified teachers. Upon selection as top candidates, prospective teachers are challenged to teach a lesson during one of our Demo-Teach Days. Only the teachers who are highly ranked by students and faculty are hired.

Our teachers inspire great performance!
When students love to learn, they excel. Student performance has consistently topped rankings in educational achievement both at home and abroad; our graduates attend the world's most prestigious and respected higher learning institutions.
OUR TEACHERS INSPIRE GREAT PERFORMANCE
Our teachers are subject experts and passionate educators.

BASIS teachers have degrees in their field, many have advanced degrees, but don't necessarily have a teaching license. Since many have spent their adult lives studying a subject they love, they're passionate about what they teach. It's that passion that inspires students to overcome challenges, grasp new concepts and love learning.
BASIS.ED PRIMARY MODEL
BASIS.ed Primary Schools are revolutionizing elementary education by incorporating two key aspects of the widely successful BASIS Curriculum: subject expertise and student-focused development!

The BASIS.ed Primary Teaching Model solves one of the biggest challenges in elementary education: homeroom teachers having to prepare and teach multiple subject lessons every day and then having to differentiate the instruction for their students. Our model splits these responsibilities between the Subject Expert Teacher (SET) and the Learning Expert Teacher (LET) and frees our teachers up to thrive on what they do best!

SET: Spend your time and energy on the one subject that you are most knowledgeable and passionate about. Prepare one subject-focused lesson rather than 4 or 5 lessons every day.

LET: Focus and spend the most time on individual student needs. Your role is to analyze student achievement and teach the skills necessary for academic and personal development.
