Safety First

Powell is committed to safety and this is recognized as one of the primary keys to our success. At every Powell factory, team members from production, management, technicians, and engineers make up Continuous Improvement Teams. These individuals work together to establish quarterly goals, handle risk assessments, develop recommendations, and follow-through to ensure approved changes are implemented. Hundreds of safety projects are tackled each year, with results shared throughout the company.

In addition, every Powell facility has strict safety goals - it's a management imperative. Our employees are committed to and accountable for meeting these goals with safety metrics reported monthly.

Powell’s commitment to safety has led to: major changes to our factory floors, more ergonomic workstations, improved training and safety communications, resulting in a reduction in injury frequency and severity rates. Powell facilities continue to be among the safest in the world.

How We Rate

Compared to other equipment manufacturers, Powell leads the way in workplace safety. We have injury rates below those common even in non-manufacturing sectors. Experience Modification Rate (EMR) is a number used by insurance companies to gauge both past cost of injuries and future chances of risk. The lower the EMR of your business the better. An EMR of 1.0 is considered the industry average.

Our objective is to drive improvement towards zero incidents and zero injuries through targeted improvement plans developed and implemented at individual facilities. We also focus on fostering more effective safety behaviors by establishing and maintaining clear companywide safety standards, and by conducting weekly, monthly, and annual safety awareness training and events.
