Our purpose is simple; Helping kiwis live better everyday.
The Warehouse Group has always been an organisation that challenges the status quo to deliver the things that Kiwis need. That purpose has been long standing and is an important anchor, linked to why Sir Stephen Tindall first set up The Warehouse in 1982, and remains an important guide for our business.
As we’ve grown to be NZ’s largest retailer, so has our ambition to be a positive force for NZ. Right now, the planet faces big challenges and we’re stepping up to play an even more active part. We’re committed to continuing to shift our business radically and have a vision to make sustainable living easy and affordable for everyone. We’ve already made good progress, but this takes things a step further, putting sustainability at the heart of what we do, reducing our impact for the sake of our whānau, for Aotearoa, and for our planet.
One of the ways we are doing this is a simple test called The Tomorrow Test. When we’re making decisions across our business we ask “does it pass The Tomorrow Test?” While it’s a simple sentence, it’s a big question and one that we ask ourselves about everything we do, and everything we sell. Every time we ask the question and make more progress in the right direction, we make a difference.
Our values define what we stand for and how we deliver on our purpose and vision. Our core values are: Think Customer, Own It and Do Good. They guide our conversations, actions and decisions.

The Warehouse Group offers its team members a variety of Internal and External benefits which are outlined above.
INCLUSION & DIVERSITYAt The Warehouse Group we are committed to providing a work environment where every team member can bring their whole self to work. We have a business wide commitment to connect the power of inclusion with the potential of our differences. We provide an equitable work environment that enables all individuals to reach their potential, by being seen, heard and served, accounting for all different styles, needs and aspirations.
We hire on merit, operate with fairness & promote based on talent.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY
As a committed member of the Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) initiative we actively work to eliminate barriers that can often prevent candidates from being considered for a role. We'll support you to perform at your best, we'll reward you fairly and team members have equal chances at leadership roles.
We do this because it's the right thing to do and because it makes great business sense. When everyone's included and supported, we benefit by retaining our best people and the innovation that comes from true diversity of thought.
RAINBOW TICK
Our LGBTQIA team members are an essential part of who we are, and we are proud to provide an environment where everyone can bring their whole selves to work.
We are Rainbow Tick certified, achieving accreditation in 2017. Thats the same year we introduced our Gender Transition policy to ensure anyone on our team is full supported if they're considering their identity or transitioning. We've released a Rainbow Community Training Module & we're actively working to end period poverty as part of our commitment to inclusion and equality. We're incredibly proud to support The Big Gay Out & Out in the City.
GENDER EQUITY
Ensuring we actively work towards closing the gender gap has been a core commitment for us over the years. TWG is incredibly proud that we've achieved 100% gender pay equity at a Group level. We have also increased women in senior leadership roles by 44% and run several bespoke programmes to encourage women's ability to thrive in the workplace.
LEAN IN
In 2020, we launched Lean In, a peer-to-peer mentoring programme that challenges gender bias through professional and leadership development opportunities. Lean In equips participants to navigate gender dynamics, lead authentically & gain confidence to pursue their dreams without bias or other barriers holding them back.
PARENTAL LEAVE POLICY
We updated our Parental Leave Policy in early 2022. This update tops up parental leave payments to full pay for the first 6 months of an eligible team members leave. This has been a key initiative to support our efforts in gender equality pay as it enables team members to focus on growing their families without the additional financial strain, provides support for an ease-back approach to returning to work, and encourages team members to continue to grow their careers with us.

Find out how we're doing this below....
FLEET
To help reduce our carbon footprint, we're flipping our fleet. Currently 59% of our passenger cars are EV's. We're aiming to be 100% electric by 2023. Our electric vehicle fleet now includes four custom EV tricks to service home deliveries.
We're also making is easy for our customers with EV's to visit us, with 24 of our Warehouse stores offering free electric vehicle charging stations.
CARBON NEUTRAL
We achieved carbon neutral operating status in 2019, meaning all our carbon emissions from 2018 onward are offset. We're the largest company in New Zealand - and the third retailer globally - to be carbon neutral.
We're not stopping there. Our 2030 target is to reduce our emissions by 32% from our 2015 base level. This is in keeping with the targets set by the 2015 Paris Agreement.
REUSABLE BAGS
Plastic is not fantastic. In 2018, The Warehouse Group ditched single use plastic bags and began offering customers reusable bags for purchase. And what's good for the environment is good for the community. Sales of our reusable bags have raised over $2M for not-for-profit groups across New Zealand in the past two years.
ETHICAL SOURCING
We introduced our ethical sourcing programme in 2004 to protect the welfare of workers in our supply chain. Through our programme and policy, we actively monitor our supply factories to ensure workers are treated and paid fairly and are working in safe and ethical conditions that meet our strict policy standards.
We are part of joint international programmes to support worker livelihoods in the areas we operate such as the HerProject in Bangladesh and the Better Cotton Initiative - the world's largest sustainable cotton production programme.
E-WASTE RECYCLING PROGRAMME
We've launched a free e-waste recycling programme at 16 our Noel Leeming stores nationwide. Noel Leeming is the exclusive retail partner of TechCollect NZ. Together, we're implementing a government-funded e-waste recycling trial nationwide. We hope this programme will help New Zealanders shift a significant amount of e-waste out of landfills and recover precious resources to be recycled.
