BENEFITS OF BEING A PLUMBER
There are many advantages of a career as a plumber. Here are just a few:
High Salary Potential: Journeyman plumbers can make enough to support a family and live comfortably. Master plumbers can earn over $100,000 a year.
High Demand: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters is projected to grow 16 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations.

Complete an apprenticeship that lasts from 2 to 5 years, depending on work experience and other specialized training programs
Additional requirements, skills, and character traits include:
Ability to work well in cramped spaces
Good manual dexterity
Comfortable with general math
People and communication skills
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
After you have completed your training and education, the next step is to become a licensed plumber. You will need to pass an examination issued by your state. Every state's requirements vary slightly.

Roto-Rooter Offers Zero Contact ServiceLearn more about Roto-Rooter careers at https://www.rotorooter.com/careers/
Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup developed Zero-Contact Service in response to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. At Roto-Rooter we understand that people are nervous about inviting outsiders into their homes right now. They don’t want to get close to a stranger, they aren’t interested in shaking hands, and they have anxiety about a service technician walking around inside their homes touching surfaces.
WHAT DOES ZERO CONTACT SERVICE MEAN?
It’s your assurance that Roto-Rooter is putting safety first. Yours and ours. It begins when you call Roto-Rooter to schedule service. Our customer service representative will inquire about your plumbing or water damage problem, then they’ll also ask if anyone in your home has been sick with virus symptoms. They’ll ask if you have any special requests for when our plumbers and service technicians arrive. For instance, if you’d rather they enter through the garage instead of the front door, just pass along your special instructions and we will carry them out.
SOCIAL DISTANCING/PHYSICAL DISTANCING
When our technicians arrive at your home, they’ll follow CDC guidelines, which includes maintaining at least 6-feet of distance between you and them. We ask that you do the same.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
Our technicians will also wear appropriate personal protective equipment, which may vary by location and could depend on the situation. Here’s what to expect:
Disposable gloves, latex or nitrile. We’ll wear them while working and we’ll put on a fresh set before handling your paperwork and credit card.
Boot covers, so we don’t carry in germs, track mud, or stain your carpeting
Face masks. The type may vary by location and availability. As you probably know, face masks of all kinds are in short supply and are even being rationed in some areas. Hospitals and medical centers are being given higher priority to take delivery of masks before plumbers and service personnel. Please know that we’re doing everything possible to equip all Roto-Rooter branches with all the PPE they need to be safe, but it will likely vary by location. This means your service technician might wear a paper surgical style mask, a cloth surgical mask, an N-95 mask, a dust mask, plastic face shield or even a bandana.
CLEANUP
Our service technicians wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. They’re also using hand sanitizer as needed. Additionally, they’ll disinfect touchpoints before, during and after jobs, including service vehicle steering wheels and door handles, equipment and even the plumbing fixtures they handled in your home.
You can depend on Roto-Rooter's Zero Contact Service commitment to customers and employees. All company-owned branches are dedicated to the program, as are most independent Roto-Rooter franchises and contractors. If you see ways we can improve, please let us know. We want to be your trusted partner.

Sacramento Roto-Rooter Plumber Heroically Saves Helpless Kitten Trapped in DrainAfter a routine estimate, Roto-Rooter plumber Mike Jennings was able to free a trapped kitten in 10 minutes.
Sacramento, California, September 28, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Friday September 23, started as any other evening for Roto-Rooter assistant manager Mike Jennings. He had just finished an estimate for a water heater repair in the Citrus Heights community of Crosswoods. On his way into the job, he had noticed several Sacramento Metro Fire units and Citrus Heights police cars parked on the main road of the intersection between Auburn Boulevard and Crosswoods Parkway. After leaving the job an hour later and noticing the fire units and police still on the scene, Jennings decided to take a closer look.
Arriving at the scene, Jennings noticed that the police and firemen were working on the storm drain and manhole. When Jennings approached and asked what was happening, a fireman informed him that there was a trapped kitten that they had been working to free for close to three hours. Jennings immediately let them know he could help and quickly sprung to action. Utilizing his sewer camera, Jennings was able to locate and rescue the trapped kitten in roughly 10 minutes time. Once recovered and seeing that the kitten was fine, the crowd that had been gathered around cheered. According to Citrus Heights Crime Watch, one of the policemen reporting to the scene will be adopting the kitten and naming the cat Stormy.
“I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time as well as having access to the training and knowledge afforded to me by working at Roto-Rooter,” says Jennings. “Utilizing the skills and equipment I use every day at work, I was just happy that I was able to rescue the kitten and so quickly.”
Experts at Roto-Rooter are ready 24 hours a day, seven days a week to take on plumbing issues big and small, from dripping faucets and pipe leaks, to sewer and drain cleaning and water heater replacement.
