In the early 80s, Ernie, our founder (Dad) was working for a man named Jim. Ernie would be left on job sites for days in a row, with no help. Suddenly Jim would show up and take the check. But Jim wasn’t ever around when the job was happening. Ernie just wasn’t into his way of life.
One day as usual, after Dad spent several days on the roof, Jim finally showed up, invoice in hand. Expecting a check, he walked up to the customer. The customer gave him a check, alright. A reality check! He confronted Fred with these words: “You didn’t do a single thing you said you would.” Ernie had had enough of the lousy customer service. The “Ernie Smith & Sons Roofing” saga had begun.
