It all began with a model home.
In Washington Township Pennsylvania 1939, Stanley Piekarski, a carpenter by trade, built his first model home. Facing a weak economy, no qualified buyers and hard times, Stanley decided to move his family into it. Shortly after, Stanley attached a wood-working shop to the basement of the house, allowing him to produce interior wood staircases and wood moldings on a part-time basis.
In 1959 Stanley opened the original Stanford Lumber Company store in Apollo. In 1967, he opened a second store in Holiday Park. After a disastrous fire that leveled the Holiday Park store in 1972, his family selected a new site and reopened the store. In 1976, a third store opened in Leechburg signifying the beginning of Stanford Home Centers.
From these early beginnings, the Piekarski family has grown Stanford to two home centers, a rental center, and one distribution warehouse.
