How Are Nurses Supported at Brighton?
Carol, a registered nurse, has never before had a job where she felt so well supported. When she first started, the Director of Operations came out of his office to speak with Carol. He said, “I just want you to know that we are here to support you; to make sure that your needs are met, so you can get out there and give our patients the care that they deserve.” Carol was leery at first, but soon found out that he meant every word of it. Watch this video to hear exactly how she is supported and why this makes her feel so appreciated and valued.
Beyond Brighton
Brighton has partnered with “Perillo’s Learning Journeys” to provide Transitions India- a continuing education program. This is an opportunity for our valued team members to travel abroad and be immersed in a highly-impactful learning experience. Each year two Brighton team members will be chosen to travel to India for a week to learn about their hospice and the end of life customs. Participants will be immersed in the culture and learn how to extend past cultural and socioeconomic differences. It provides a unique opportunity to understand how different cultures accept transition.

This powerful experience can provide Brighton team members knowledge of new ways to help teach patients and their families how to navigate peacefully through the process. The program will focus on resiliency, coping with compassion fatigue in caregivers, and teach new tools for stress management.

Some of the activities our team will be involved in include:
- Akshardham Temple and Gandhi Museum in Delhi
- Boat ride on the Ganges to learn about transition rituals and participation in prayer in Varanasi
- Discussion on Hinduism, transition practices and a visit to Kashi Mukti Bhawan in Varanasi
- Visit Ganga Prem Hospice in Rishikesh
- Aarti Ceremony of Ganges in Rishikesh
- Community service visit to Purkal Youth Development Society
- Classes on mindfulness and stress management

Hospice is Life Giving
When I tell people I'm a Chaplain in hospice, many express their wonder over how I could do such work. They say things like, "I could never do that," and, "That must be so depressing." The truth is, it's the most life giving experience in the world. All of us are going to die, and being able to serve people near death reminds me of how precious my time and life is. It gives me perspective and aligns my priorities. It teaches me to be grateful for the small things in life. When you do hospice work, you just can't take life for granted anymore.

Our Commitment to Excellence
The employees at Brighton Hospice are eager to go above and beyond, which makes them true experts in their field. They continually seek to learn all they possibly can in order to better serve those on hospice care. We often hear the nurses in our assisted living facilities say, "I don't know how we'd be able to do our jobs without your team here."

Our Why!
Why? Why do we even do this job? The answer to this question is captured best by our clients. They are our "why," as this video explains through their own stories. These three stories are told from the perspective of those left behind in the wake of great loss. Each is one example of hundreds of stories we hear from our clients every single day. It can be a difficult job, but this is what makes it all worthwhile.
Working in Hospice Makes an Impact Everyday
Working in hospice changed Travis as a person, because it taught him the value of cherishing each day. Serving people in hospice care provides an opportunity to impact someone's life each and every day. It becomes a true honor to be a part of that person's, as well their family's, memories.

If you would like the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life, please visit our careers or volunteer page.
