About Morrison Center
Morrison Center has been serving the greater Portland area for more than 60 years. In fact, what is known as Morrison Center today began in 1951 when a group of interested individuals from the Westbrook Kiwanis formed an affiliation with Down East Cerebral Palsy Association.
Throughout the 1950’s, the program expanded from a Saturday afternoon playgroup to offering services several days a week. 60 years later, we’ve grown to an organization that offering a wide variety of programs and services. We also changed our name to honor Betty Morrison who essentially founded the Center and served as the Executive Director from 1962-1999!
Today Morrison Center is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to provide comprehensive, individualized support services to children and adults with developmental disabilities. The Center, with many locations in Maine, currently serves individuals who have a range of developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities including cerebral palsy, neurological disorders, head injuries, genetic disorders, and autism

Using a community support and integration approach, Morrison Center provides high-quality, flexible adult day programming full of positive life experiences and growth opportunities. The Center’s life skills curriculum stresses the goals of self-advocacy, independent living, and community integration in support of each consumer’s individualized Person-Centered Plan.
In our commitment to fostering independence and growth, as well as strengthening personal choice, Morrison Center offers several different activities throughout the week that encourage participants to make activity choices for themselves while learning new skills.

Early Childhood ProgramsIn our commitment to fostering independence and growth, as well as strengthening personal choice, Morrison Center offers several different activities throughout the week that encourage participants to make activity choices for themselves while learning new skills.

The goal of the Friends First Preschool Program is to provide children with disabilities a quality preschool program to prepare them for lifelong learning and transition to kindergarten, while meeting their individual special needs.
Using specialized curricula and an integration model, Morrison Center’s individualized early childhood services provide plentiful stimulation in all developmental areas. Lesson plans encourage growth for both typically developing and delayed learners, and provide for both early intervention and special education needs.
Morrison Center has preschool programs in our Wells and Scarborough locations as well as within the public schools in Hiram, Buxton, and Standish.
K-12 Educational ServicesUsing specialized curricula and an integration model, Morrison Center’s individualized early childhood services provide plentiful stimulation in all developmental areas. Morrison Center’s School Program is a Special Purpose Private School approved by the Department of Education and serves as an alternative placement for students with significant developmental disabilities.

Morrison Center’s residential program offers a supported, comfortable living option for adults with disabilities. Our homes are designed to provide residents the maximum level of independence while ensuring that they are living safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives.
We offer comprehensive residential service options for adults with developmental disabilities, autism, other related conditions, and complex medical and/or behavioral challenges with locations in Wells, Westbrook, New Gloucester, Standish, Cornish, Bridgton, Naples, and South Paris.

The Morrison Center Team is dedicated to providing a therapeutic and healing environment for the children and families we serve.
Our programs provide 24-hour supervision in a highly structured and safe environment. It is our goal to work collaboratively with your child, family, community-based supports and others who have a significant role in your child’s life. We hope that by working together, your child can complete our program, progressing to a less restrictive environment and/or return home.

Morrison Center provides clients of all ages with high-quality therapy services toward functional personal gains or recovery. Using a collaborative approach, Morrison Center provides its adult clients with high-quality community case management services to help navigate and maximize an individual’s available resources. Our goal is to respect individuality and personal visions while achieving specific goals. We promote the well-being of the individuals we serve as we advocate on their behalf. At all times, integrity and honesty are an integral part of our services.
Children’s Case Management
Using their extensive knowledge of community, clinical, and educational resources, our Children’s Case Management Program helps children and their families navigate and maximize the many available resources. Our goal is to support the physical & emotional health and well-being of the youth we serve, as well as protecting the individual rights of the students and parents/caregivers.
Shared Living Option (SLO)Community Case Management for Adults
Using a collaborative approach, Morrison Center provides its adult clients with high-quality community case management services to help navigate and maximize an individual’s available resources. Our goal is to respect individuality and personal visions while achieving specific goals. We promote the well-being of the individuals we serve as we advocate on their behalf. At all times, integrity and honesty are an integral part of our services.
Children’s Case Management

Our goal is to support the physical & emotional health and well-being of the youth we serve, as well as protecting the individual rights of the students and parents/caregivers.
Morrison Center is pleased to offer a Shared Living Option (SLO) as a residential choice for adults with disabilities. In a Shared Living model, families or individuals open their homes to care for a consumer in a least restrictive environment. In exchange, the contracted Shared Living Provider receives a stipend, respite and support from the Morrison team. Morrison Center is able to serve consumers in all Maine Counties.
