Our Brand

We are proud of our past and excited about the future. For over 160 years, we’ve been working with clients across generations, building on what’s proven and pursuing what’s possible.  The company began a new chapter on January 14, 2020, when we unveiled our updated brand, Equitable, as we continue to operate as an independent, U.S.-based company.

Along with our name, which has a strong inherent meaning of ‘fair, unbiased, impartial’, we have the Greek goddess Athena, who’s been a part of our identity for 160 years and appears in our logo in a modern form, facing the future with confidence.

Athena represents Courage, Strength and Wisdom:

Courage for honesty and transparency – having conviction to listen, understand and have the tough conversations in pursuit of doing what’s right to face the future with confidence

Strength represents all we bring as a 160 year old company which has stood the test of time and reflects our long-term focus for helping future generations.

Wisdom underscores our deep experience and understanding that financial planning is about helping people, and that at the center of every financial decision is a life choice.

With Courage, Strength and Wisdom, we will work with our clients to pursue what’s possible, so that their goals of today become their accomplishments of tomorrow.  By uncovering opportunities and preparing for life’s uncertainties we will help our clients face the future with confidence.

We express our commitment to corporate responsibility in part through Equitable Foundation. The Equitable Foundation directs our company’s philanthropic and volunteer activities. Through philanthropy, volunteerism and sustainability we leverage our resources to build a stronger society for our customers and our employees.

Employee Resource Groups

We embrace the diversity of our teams and welcome every employee and advisor to be their unique self.  Our 11 Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) provide opportunities for employee to strengthen relationships with each other, with the company and with the community. In turn, they help us grow stronger, individually and collectively.  And we know that we are most successful when we work together - that's the power of our community.

Learning and development

We offer a wide selection of digital learning courses from leading providers to support personal and professional development in current and emerging topics as well as classroom-style courses focused on leadership development and support. We also provide tuition reimbursement programs to defray the cost of degree programs. 

Internal mobility

Taking on new roles provides a wealth of ways for employees to learn, grow and advance in their careers. Among the open positions at Equitable, about 30% on average are filled by internal candidates We provide continuous resources for employees to prepare for the next opportunity or milestone.

Equitable Foundation

Since 1859, our promise has been to help people pursue what's possible. We do this in our business every day, and we work hard to build a better future for our communities too. For over 30 years, our Foundation has contributed to the success and vitality of our communities through grants, partnerships and volunteerism. 

Equitable Excellence Scholarship

We know how much of a financial burden paying for college can be. That's why every year, we recognize high-school students who have made remarkable contributions to their schools and communities and award them with scholarships - helping them get closer to their dream of attending college. Since its launch in 2003, we have awarded over $28 million to more than 6,500 students - making us one of the nation's largest corporate scholarship providers. 

Community-based philanthropy 

Nothing makes us prouder than the work our employees and financial professionals do to strengthen the communities in which we live and work. To amplify their efforts, we:

support our people as they support their communities through our Matching Gifts program,
volunteer on a local level, with our teams volunteering their time with organizations in their areas to contribute to the success of their communities and their efforts backed by Equitable Foundation through charitable grants and our company volunteer program, Equitable in Action. 
contribute annually to the American Red Cross Disaster Responder Program. Our support is an investment in disaster relief preparedness, ensuring the Red Cross are always ready to respond when disaster strikes. 
establish philanthropic partnerships with national non-profit organizations as a trusted resource helping to support their missions including the New Teacher Center, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and Dress for Success.
