SustainabilityWe Are Our History
Our employees have been working hard to power Michigan’s growth and progress for more than 130 years, and we’re forging a bright path as we look to the future.
In 1886, the year the Foote brothers founded our company,W.A. Foote lived by a simple mantra, “If you have promised anything, carry through with it.”
That philosophy has been carried through over the years and its substance can be seen in everything we do – whether it’s caring for the communities we serve, restoring power to our customers or leaving the environment better than we found it.

We Are Our Future
Since then, much has changed in the utility industry. One thing that hasn’t changed is the daily pledge to do the right thing and the commitment to our families, friends and neighbors in Michigan. That’s part of the company’s DNA –no matter the energy related policies or challenges that face us.
World Class Performance Delivering Hometown Service is a simple creed, but is central to everything we do, now and moving forward. It doesn’t matter if you are answering calls in the contact center, climbing a utility pole or making a presentation, we all play a part in continuing the legacy of the company.

Our company has always encouraged employees to be innovative and to do the right thing; and in turn,
employees have respected the company’s dedication to their safety and encouragement to donate to causes we support.
Generations of passionate and dedicated employees have brought us to where we are today. And our workforce, now and those that follow in the future will be responsible for upholding the values that have made us one of the most respected companies in the country.

In our line of work, we have a wide range of employees – all striving to deliver hometown service. These employees range from Union workers, which include our gas and electric workers and field employees, to exempt and non- exempt employees with corporate roles scattered all over the state. We also strive to invest in and prepare the next generation of workers through our internship program.
Our company values our partnership with the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA), which represents our Operations, Maintenance and Construction (OM&C), Customer Contact Center (CCC) and Zeeland plant employees – more than half our workforce.
