About Toward Independence, Inc.
Toward Independence, Inc. (TI) is a nonprofit agency that provides a full range of services and support programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Our mission is to empower people with developmental disabilities to experience the fullest life possible by providing person-centered supports which enable them to integrate into a variety of settings within their community.
Founded in 1975 by a group of dedicated parents and professionals, our agency has assisted over 190 individuals in fulfilling their personal needs, choices, hopes and dreams during our years of operation. It is our enduring goal to honor the worth and dignity of each individual we serve.
We currently serve over 200 individuals in Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Darke , Miami & ButlerCounties.

Sara's Story: More Than A JobWorking at Toward Independence is more than just a job. Sara Chiles, a Program Coordinator in Greene County, began serving adults with disabilities in 2014 as a Direct Support Professional (DSP). Since then, the people she serves have gotten her through some of the hardest seasons of her life. Hers is a story of trauma, service, and heart; Sara found a home at Toward Independence. Sara's story goes to show that a career in the direct care industry is more than just a job -- it's a profession that changes you as you work to change the lives of others.
