The Center for Disability Services
About The Center for Disability Services
Our Mission
To enable and empower people, primarily those with disabilities, to lead healthy and enriched lives.
For over 75 years, The Center for Disability Services has been one of upstate New York’s largest providers of programs and services for individuals who have disabilities.
With more than 80 locations throughout 15 counties, we annually provide programs and services to over 12,000 individuals, ranging from infants to senior citizens, and their families. We provide services for over 300 different diagnoses of disabilities included Cerebral Palsy, developmental disabilities, Multiple Sclerosis, Autism Spectrum disorders, epilepsy, spina bifida, TBI and Down syndrome.
Our wide range of services under a single umbrella allows us to provide a seamless continuum of care as the people we support age or as their needs change. From intensive medical care to residential services, to dental care to mental health, the individuals we support can have it all managed through the Center.
We are committed to the well being of the people we support, while providing opportunities which lead to more independent lifestyles and productive, happier lives. For a weekend, a week, or a lifetime, in your home or ours, The Center for Disability Services is here for you and your family.
Our Vision
To be the model for helping people get better at life, through innovation and service excellence for those we serve, in unison with staff and partners who share our passion.

Founded in 1883, St. Margaret’s Center, an affiliate of Center for Disability Services, is a skilled nursing facility serving medically fragile infants, children and young adults on a single dedicated campus. We specialize in providing long-term, 24-hour medical care in a nurturing and home-like setting.
Our goal at St. Margaret’s is to help children learn and grow, despite any obstacle. Thanks to our innovative programs, technology, and specialized care from our highly trained nursing staff, respiratory therapists, therapy department and attending physicians from Albany Med Pediatric Center and The Center for Disability Services, we have made it possible to children to be weaned off of ventilators that they once relied on, and many return home to their families, graduate from school, and move to less restrictive environments. We pride ourselves on the many children who have successfully transitioned back into their own homes.
