• In 2017, the starting salary of a Direct Support Professional was $9.88/hour. In the last five years, The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, with rate increases for services, has incrementally raised the starting hourly salary to $16.25. The Arc is committed to continuing to look at the hourly wage, understanding that this is challenging and critical work.
The Arc Central Chesapeake Region was founded on the principles of equity and inclusion. We have an active Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory (DEI) Committee that provides employees at every level of the organization opportunities to consciously foster an inclusive, equitable environment. The Committee provides recommendations to The Arc Central Chesapeake Region’s Executive Leadership Team based on DEI best practices to create a culture of respect, collaboration, and teamwork among employees. Comprised of employees across the organization, the Committee acts as a thought-partner with executive leaders, suggesting professional development opportunities, new communications strategies, and identifying and addressing DEI challenges as they arise.
