The Gott Company started in the petroleum industry in 1945, but after being in the fuel business for approximately 63 years, the decision was made to sell this division of the company. In 2007, Southern Maryland Oil acquired staff, customers and petroleum services rendered to residence or commercial accounts underneath The Gott Company name. After a 10-year hiatus, The Gott Company’s leadership saw an opportunity to get back into the industry. However, rather than provide full-service packages as it once did, the company adopted a new business model that presented itself as beneficial due to industry changes that had occurred. The company’s new model, retained as a division of the Gott Company, was named Quality Discount Oil and Gas, also known as Q-Dog, and acts as a discount fuel source for the southern Maryland region.
