About Pikeville Medical Center
Taking a fall while hiking the rugged Appalachians might land you at Pikeville Medical Center (PMC). Serving patients in eastern Kentucky, PMC has about 260 beds and provides a full range of inpatient, outpatient, and surgical services. Centers and departments within the hospital handle specialties such as diagnostic imaging, echocardiogram, neurosurgery, cancer care, and bariatric surgery. Employing 300 physicians, PMC also operates a rehabilitation hospital, a home health agency, and outpatient family practice and specialty clinics, as well as a physician residency program. PMC first opened on Christmas Day in 1924.

Pikeville Medical Center is rapidly expanding its services and facilities to keep pace with the needs of area residents. It added new services in 2012 including pulmonary rehabilitation, plastic surgery, and orthopedic trauma. In addition, the hospital launched a $130 million expansion project that will add an 11-story outpatient center (including physician practices and surgery suites) and a 10-story parking garage by 2014. Additional expansion efforts in recent years include opening new outpatient cancer, diagnostic, pain management, and primary care clinics.
