About Maplefields RL Vallee
In 1942 Rodolphe L. Vallee (Duff) took advantage of an opportunity created by a minor fender bender of a former Socony (now ExxonMobil Corporation after numerous acquisitions and mergers) fuel driver. In line with the opportunistic attitude that would later characterize his company, Duff called Socony and suggested that might be able to fill the slot of the driver… And so began R.L. Vallee, Inc., now one of Vermont’s top companies.
For over 50 years, R.L. Vallee’s commitment to retail service did not waver. Duff’s one truck grew to over 90, his 50 customers to nearly 20,000. Purchased by Duff’s son, Rod, in 1972, R.L. Vallee continued to grow, diversify and flourish.
While home heating oil and propane continued to be the mainstay, the exit by Socony from its direct marketing role (small gasoline wholesale dealer accounts) vaulted R. L. Vallee into the wholesale gasoline business. In 1985, R.L. Vallee built the first distributor “Pegasus 21” Mobil Mart in the country and continued to lead the industry when it became one of the country’s first distributors to use card activated dispensers in 1992.
Through the 1980s, 1990s and into the new millennium, R.L. Vallee, Inc. grew under the leadership and ownership of Rod’s sons, Skip and Tim. Through a series of acquisitions and expansions, R.L. Vallee, Inc. grew to include a number of affiliate companies including Twin State Fuels, Northfield Fuels, Calder & Richardson, and McGee Energy Associates which delivered propane to over 6,000 Vermont homes and businesses and home heating oil to over 14,000 customers in Vermont and New Hampshire.
In 1996, to facilitate future expansion, R.L. Vallee, Inc. split into two separate and distinct businesses with Tim and Skip retaining control of the wholesale motor fuels distribution network and convenience store division. Its new, more clearly focused mission being to provide the highest quality products and services to the motoring public.
In 1998, R.L. Vallee developed the marketing themes and layout of the first “Maplefields” in Woodstock Vermont. Through acquisitions, rebuilds, and expansions Maplefields locations now support communities across Northern New England and Upstate New York.
Still based in St. Albans, Vermont, Maplefields strives to be the best in the business with a strong focus on community involvement, bright clean stores and the most outstanding staff you can find in any convenience store. Maplefields is best known for having a high-quality coffee program and very clean bathrooms all of which boast fresh flowers. Maplefields has locations as far west as Malone, New York and as far east as Littleton, New Hampshire.
R.L. Vallee, Inc. also supplies and transports motor fuels to company operated stores as well as wholesale dealer accounts.
R.L. Vallee, Inc. is prepared to continue its growth trend in company operated convenience stores and wholesale accounts. As a responsible and supportive member of the community R.L. Vallee, Inc. looks forward to offering opportunities for highly motivated individuals who wish to grow.
