About WEST TEXAS GAS
With a deep understanding the utility of natural gas, natural gas utility WEST TEXAS GAS distributes more than 25 billion cu. ft. of natural gas, propane, and other petroleum products to more than 25,000 residential, commercial, agricultural, and governmental customers in Texas and Oklahoma Panhandle region. The company, the fourth-largest investor-owned public utility in Texas, also operates retail gasoline stations and convenience stores and has gas gathering, production, transmission, and marketing operations. WEST TEXAS GAS is 100%-owned by CEO J. L. Davis.
Like other energy companies, WEST TEXAS GAS saw its revenues drop on 2009 as the global recession hammered commodity prices and weakened demand. A rebounding economy and a rise in oil and gas prices helped the company's sales and income in 2010.
WEST TEXAS GAS was founded in 1976 by J. L. Davis, a midstream oil and gas industry veteran with more than 50 years of experience in the business. He began his professional career in 1949, with Magnolia Oil Company.
Seeking to expand its gas distribution into Mexico, in 2008 the company acquired Reef International, a marketer of gas to Mexico, and which controlled a natural gas pipeline that ties the US-Mexico border to intrastate gas facilities on the US side of the Rio Grande. WEST TEXAS GAS subsequently acquired the pipeline from Reef International.
