New Hanover County Schools

New Hanover County Schools (NHCS) is the 12th largest school system in North Carolina located in the beautiful coastal town of Wilmington. The district has approximately 26,000 students enrolled in grades Pre K through 12 and offers exceptional and diverse school choices for families. NHCS is comprised of 45 schools and 3 administrative offices stretched among 3 beaches, the Cape Fear River, and a revitalized downtown area. Personnel includes over 2,000 certified teachers, 1,600 support employees comprised of teacher assistants, administrative support, maintenance, cafeteria, and transportation workers. NHCS also employs roughly 500 highly qualified substitutes for schools and the operation divisions. There are many points of pride made by the district and its outstanding personnel including a top 25 nationwide ranking of National Board Certified teachers, State winning athletic championship programs, federal award-winning child nutrition programs, and regional educators of the year, to name just a few.
