Wyckoff Heights Medical Center

Wyckoff Heights is taking health care to new levels. Serving the New York boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center maintains some 350 beds and provides a comprehensive range of specialized services, including diagnostics, radiology, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, surgery, and rehabilitative care. The hospital also provides educational services through a partnership with the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, and it offers outpatient services through several family health clinics in the area. The not-for-profit medical center is an affiliated member of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System but is governed by an independent board of trustees.

Operations

The hospital has 75,000 visits a year at its Pediatric/Adult Emergency Departments. Every year it also delivers 2,000 babies, offers outpatient services to thousands through a network of community ambulatory care centers and conducts extensive community health education and screening programs.

Strategy

Wyckoff Heights is responding to the growing healthcare needs of the communities they serve by acquiring new equipment and expanding clinical programs. The center has added an on-site MRI to ensure that community residents do not have to travel outside the neighborhood to access advanced radiologic procedures, the center established a cardiac catheterization lab for definitive diagnostic tests that assess coronary circulation and overall heart function, implemented a a bloodless medicine and surgery program to accommodate those individuals who for religious or other reasons choose treatment options that do not include blood, installed hyperbaric chambers to aid in the healing of wounds encountered by diabetic patients and burn victims and access to a discrete Women's Health Center that offers a comprehensive range of obstetrical and gynecological services in maximum privacy and comfort for female patients of all ages.
